Birla Corp had won a competitive bid amongst rivals and won the Lafarge cement plants of Jojobera in Jharkhand and Sonadih in Chhattisgarh. Both the plants have a combined capacity of 5.15 million tonnes and have been valued at Rs. 50,000 million with mineral rights over adequate reserves of limestone. With this acquisition Birla Corp will have a strong foot hold in eastern markets. The deal have also been approved by Competition Commission of India as well.
According to experts, the purchase price pegs enterprise value (EV) per tonne at USD 150.
