Panyam Cements was incorporated in 1955 in Betacherala in Kurnool in AP to produce portland cement and asbestos. The company was promoted by Padmasri Somappa and others with an initial capacity of 200 tpd and over the years expanded it. Initially, the company adopted wet process and now use modern dry process and its current capacity is slated at 2200 tpd. The company had been accumulating losses and reported to BIFR. However, over improvement in 2006 and fund infusion from SPY Reddy it ceased to be sick company in 2006.
